European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS)
ECTS makes teaching and learning in higher education more transparent across Europe and facilitates the recognition of all studies. The system allows for the transfer of learning experiences between different institutions, greater student mobility and more flexible routes to gain degrees. It also aids curriculum design and quality assurance.
FETAC Access, Transfer and Progression
The FETAC website contains information on level 5 and level 6 FETAC awards, which enables progression routes to third level (higher education links scheme), as well as information on progression opportunities for holders of Advanced Certificate - Craft

HETAC
HETAC (the Higher Education and Training Awards Council) was established on 11 June 2001, under the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999. It is the successor to the National Council for Educational Awards (NCEA). HETAC is the qualifications awarding body for third-level education and training institutions outside the university sector.
Institutes of Technology
Institutes of Technology Ireland, was incorporated in June 2005 as a not-for-profit organisation with charitable status. It enables the Directors/Presidents of the 13 Institutes of Technology established under the 1992 RTCs Act to co-ordinate the work of the Institutes nationally and it resources the Management Teams of the Institutes in the discharge of their duties towards their respective Institutions.

Social Protection Facilitator
The National Development Plan (NDP) 2007 -2013 provides for the Social and Economic Participation Programme involving an investment of 50m in a new initiative by the Department of Social Protection. The programme is specifically targeted at encouraging and supporting those on social welfare to make the transition from passive welfare payments to active participation in employment.
